What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractor Chiropractic Mission ChiroChiropractic is a health care profession that supports the integrated relationship between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. It is a drug-free, non-invasive, hands-on approach to health care. Many people assume that the only time to see a Chiropractor is for a sore neck or back. While those are appropriate times for treatment, a Chiropractor also helps to maintain optimal health and prevent injury. Chiropractic is a safe, gentle, and effective option for the entire family.

How Do Chiropractic Adjustments Work?

A chiropractic adjustment is used when a joint is not moving to its full capacity due to tight muscles, inflammation, or misalignment. During an adjustment the Chiropractor applies a quick but gentle force through the joint with their hands allowing the affected area to move with greater freedom, reducing pain and restoring movement.

Regular chiropractic adjustments are a proactive choice to maintain optimal health and pain-free function of the body.

What To Expect

Mission ChiropractorDr. Lee Phillips has a unique approach to chiropractic care. He not only utilizes chiropractic adjustments, he also addresses the soft tissues using Active Release Techniques (ART®). Dr. Lee Phillips is the only full body certified provider of Active Release Techniques (ART®) in Mission, BC. His physical examination may include a postural evaluation, orthopedic testing, gait analysis, and/or muscle testing. He will evaluate your symptom pattern in order to find the potential cause of your condition. His treatment approach is diverse and includes joint manipulation and mobilization in conjunction with soft tissue therapies. To avoid future injuries Dr. Lee Phillips can prescribe specific exercises, give postural recommendations, and explain the mechanism of injury so that it may be avoided in the future.

If this is your first treatment you will be asked to complete a confidential intake form; initial visits typically last 30 – 45 minutes. Each subsequent treatment session is approximately 10-15 minutes. Patients should wear clothing that allows access to the problem area such as running shorts for a hamstring injury or a tank top for a shoulder injury. Evoke has gowns and shorts available for you to change into if necessary.

Depending on your specific condition, your age, your overall health, and whether your condition is acute or chronic, you may expect different results from chiropractic treatment. After a thorough history and initial exam, Dr. Lee Phillips will recommend an individualized treatment plan. Recent conditions often resolve faster than those that have been long standing or those which are constantly being re-aggravated. In general you can expect a decrease in pain and discomfort and an increase in range of motion and function as a result from chiropractic care.

MSP subsidizes a portion of your treatment costs if you are on the Premium Assistance Plan. Chiropractic care can be billed to MSP directly. Evoke Wellness Centre is otherwise opted out and therefore does not bill MSP directly. Full payment for the visit will be taken at the time of service. If you qualify, you are entitled to 10 combined visits for all qualifying services within that calendar year.

  • ICBC Coverage

Evoke Wellness Centre will bill ICBC directly for a portion of the treatment costs. The patient will be responsible for their portion at the time of service. Depending on the circumstances of the accident, ICBC often reimburses the patient for their portion. Please inquire with your adjustor. At your initial visit we require you to bring your care card, your adjustor’s name and your claim number.

  • Extended Health Care Coverage

The majority of extended health care plans cover Chiropractic, Naturopathic, and Registered Massage Therapy treatments. If you have an extended health care plan you must check with them directly to find out what your plan covers for reimbursement for services. Evoke Wellness Centre now offers direct billing of the following extended health care plans: Blue Cross, Chamber of Commerce, Cowan, Great West Life, Johnson, Johnston Group, Manulife, Maximum Benefit and Sun Life. If your insurance company does not offer direct billing full payment for your treatment will be taken at the time of service. You will be issued receipts which you can then submit to your extended health care company for reimbursement.
